Have you successfully dumped Vista and returned to XP?

And did you decline the charge on your credit card, that's the one action
most likely to get the fastest service unless you didn't pay with a credit
card.

Well Dale thanks for the THREAT...wow you guys think your some kind of
God's and I beleive I did read it correctly "and then

No, you didn't read it correctly.

This was the flow of the conversation......

fredledge - the original post.
Carey, responding to the OP.
Then my post, responding to Carey.

Usenet is a hierarchial messaging system. Viewing these newsgroups at
Microsoft Discussions can be confusing, as the web interface you are
looking at is poorly designed.

Using a 'real news reader' would make it a lot easier and less confusing.

But actually, Vista *is* a dangerous program, in my experience. It has
lost data, refused to let me access programs and data that belong to
me, and generally wasted my time. Because it is dangerous and
wasteful, it sits on a shelf, unused, a constant reminder that MS has
bilked me out of my hard-earned money. I can understand why the person
(an MVP! Gosh!) who replied to me snootily would be protective of his
or her baby, but in the case of Vista I would suggest that he or she
demand a blood test.

Dale: I belive I did take your statement out of context. Looking back on this
and reviewing the order of post and statement YOU are correct.

I would like to say (with sincere) I am sorry. And truly ask for your
forgiveness?

Now that you have explained in details the proceedures on the posting and
starting a new thread.

Again I would like to say "I am Sorry" And with sincere Thanks on the
information on trying to solve my problem.

I mis-quoted and it should have been a 'real' newsreader, not 'real
newsreader'.

But anyway, my definition of a 'real' newsreader is basically ANY stand
alone news reader that operates using NNTP protocol talking directly to
an NNTP server. OE (although my very last choice), XNews, Agent,
XanaNews, Pan, etc. The list goes on and on, but even the worst (IMO)
Usenet client is better than the best Usenet web interface.

NOT a web interface, such as Google Groups, or the MS 'Communities' as
shown on the MS web page.

I went to the 'Communities' page to see what the thread looked like. When
fully expanded, it was very hard to read and see what the hierarchy
really was.

Each post was shown in full. A post replying to another post was indented
by like 2 or 3 characters only. Looking at it, I could see how it is very
easy to not realize my post was not a reply to the OP.

That's a pretty crappy HTML job if you ask me, as it looks like nothing
more than a bad PHP web forum. At least GG can show you the thread tree
to the left.

As the Aussie's would say "No worries mate". I had a feeling things were
getting lost in teh sauce. It is the one annoying part of usenet, especially
when viewed from a webpage. It would be nice if they (the powers that decide
usenet standards) could at least add the ability to post in different
colors, without the need for HTML and other over head. I understand the
reasons for keeping plain text when we were all on modems, but we're all on
some forum of broadband and so I just don't think the reasoning holds the
same water. But I digress

No problem. And by all means continue to participate if you have anything
to say.

You would take offense to being called a VistaBoi too, except in this
case, I know it was a mistake.

I would also say at the very least try using a newsreader client instead
of going thru a web interface.

Cheers.

I (unfortunately) bought a new Toshiba Satellite notebook with Vista
home "premium" on it. The operating system is dangerous, unreliable,
and slow. I want to return to XP Pro. I have a paid copy of XP Pro.

Has anyone successfully removed Vista from a computer that came with
Vista installed and replaced it with XP? I've seen plenty of
speculation from people who haven't actually done it, and I've read
all the "just get a Mac" advice. But has anyone actually *done* this
"upgrade"? Thanks.
--Fred Powledge

No problemo... IF you can get XP drivers for everything on the system,
which you almost certainly can, but this is something to check before
you begin the XP install rather than halfway through.

Also, most manufacturers won't provide much support for a system if you
install a different OS to the one it came with... Not that most of them
provide good support to begin with so this probably doesn't matter that
much.

I HOPE I AM REPLYING IN THE CORRECT TREAD HERE AND IF I DID NOT, WELL DON'T
SHOOT ME.
I CAME IN THIS DISCUSSION GROUP TO TRY TO FIND OUT SOLUTIONS TO SOME OF THE
PROBLEM I HAVE WITH MY NEW COMPUTER BUT USUALY AFTER READING THE ORIGINAL
QUESTION FROM A FELLOW "TRYING TO SOLVE IS PROBLEMS, LIKE ME" THE WAR STARTS
AND THAT THE END OF THE TREADS, OR THAT QUESTION.
IT SEEMS TO BE CONTAGIOUS BECAUSE, YOU CHANGE TO ANOTHER TREAD AND IT IS THE
SAME THING.
I WILL GO AND HAVE A LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE WHERE I WON'T HAVE TO DODGE BULLET
TO GET AN ANSWER TO A QUESTION

Whenever you have a thread like yours people will jump all over you. You
just have to expect that kind of behavior in this group. For the most part,
it isn't moderated so there are a bunch of retards who will be angry because
of your post and there are some who will want to try and shove Ubuntu down
your throat.

I have upgraded to Vista and have decided that it isn't ready for prime time
so I do all my development on my XP box and my test box has Vista. I just
use Vista for playing around with. Microsoft could have waited another year
before releasing Vista to the public.

If you ask for help with a problem, and explain it in detail, you will
likely receive some help.

If you come in ranting about Vista, with your mind already made up, and not
asking for help, then the "war" starts.

Do you have a question?

For some of the people in this group English is their second, third or even
fourth language. So please cut them a break.

Yes, and most of them speak very good English.

The OPs problem is as much ignorance of spell checkers as it is
ignorance of proper English. Add to that the rudeness of posting
before learning to use Usenet and you have someone who probably will
not make a lot of friends here.
