have no sound

please can some one help, i am a fairly new computer user the system i have
is windows xp, i seem to have somehow deleted my speakers from the system and
i can't get them back i have tried everything in the help topics and it is as
if they don't exist.
also when my system boots up a message box appears withe the following
"RUNDLL"
error loading cmicnfg.cpl
the specified module could not be found"

i have no idea if this has any thing to do with the sound.
any help would be appreciated
