have computer with 2000 pro - no logins - no auto boot

Barry

Hello all,

Got a hold of a computer 1.3G running win 2000 pro

Obviously, I cannot login, do not have domain, user, etc

went into bios, said cd was 1st option for boot

went into bios, and set security for admin password,
although when I try it, cannot get in because of domain

Went out and bought NEW win 2000 pro software. When
machine cold, put cd in and NO auto read cd and
install . . .

What do people do in this case?

Thanks in advance . . . .

To do a clean install, either boot the CD-Rom or boot the Windows 2000 setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Win2k CD-rom;
change to the \bootdisk directory on the cd-rom and execute makeboot.exe
(from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Thanks for the reply . . .

I CAN"T get past the login screen . . .

I do have access to another computer that is running XP
Home . . .

Could I put 2000 Pro in the cd rom and go to makebt32.exe
(I'm assuming 32 bit - pentium 4)

While I'm at it . . . may I ask another question?

Needing to tie into the network . . . so . . . I need to
change my XP to 2000 pro . . . can I do that fairly
easily . . . by just inserting the disk and following
instructions?

Thanks

Barry

Booting the CD-Rom would be easiest. Yes, you can make the floppies on an XP
machine. Windows XP has no problems with networking. You just can't logon to
a domain with 'Home' version.
