Hardware vs Software RAID?

I'm looking at a RAID 1 setup for a Windows 2008 R2 server and I was just about to go for a Hardware RAID card. However... I've not tried out the software RAID 1 features of this OS in a production environment, so it may actually do the job.

Has anyone here tried software RAID 1 before, and if so, how did it perform? :)
