Hardware removal

I've got one for ya. Vista occasionally will not like my Westell Dual Connect
Modem. USB connection and I'll have to plug my Westell Dual Connect Modem
into my Unit Via Ethernet. I can later on plug my Modem in USB and re-install
the driver and giddy up. Well every time I do this even though I've removed
it from Devices first and removed the driver it gives me a new name for my
Modem. No kidding! I'm now at 18 or something?? It's very odd and You can't
rename it right because the name you'd like to use "USB 2.0 Connection" is
already preset. OR used in some configuration? It's like you never really can
un-install a device. You maybe you can unistal a device but not the Name or
Identity or something. How do you get rid of that? I dug through regedit and
I just couldn't see anything that listed devices or removed devices or
anything. Thanks for your help

No,,No I think maybe you've misunderstood. I can find the device,I can use
the device, I cannot rename the device. Lets try this again. My Modem will
not talk. I remove the device. I then re-install the device. There's where
the problem Starts. It gives the device a new name. Not for example Westel
Modem 1. It Names it Westel Modem 2. Then 3,then 4. I'm now at Westel Modem
8. And...If you goto Network Sharing then Network connections and try to
rename the Modem to the same Name it had before it was removed you cannot. It
sees that name is in use. But it can't be because the device was removed. So
I'm having to use whatever messed up name that Vista is giving me now because
the simple names are used up. Get it? I can find device! I can't rename
device! I can disable device. I can remove device. I can add the device load
the driver and It's going up through the numbers because West el Modem number
4 is used and now We're going to call the Modem Westel number 5. get it? I'm
up to 8 right now. If I remove it and add it back them I'll be installing
Westel dual connect Modem #9 and I'll end up calling it something Weird
because Vista has stole my latest Name away from me. I need to know how to
get rid of the un installed devices? not find the ones I have. I know how to
see existing network connections and find existing hardware devices, be them
Modem or Network connections
