Harddrives and logic cards

I'm searching for some information on harddrive logic or controller cards,
with the intention of doing a transplant on my dead Western Digital 80Gb JB
(WD800JB). What I'm really after is a general guide to either the process of
performing a logic card transplant, or a diagnosis of what is likely to
constitute logic card failure. My harddrive disappeared after an XP Blue
Screen of Death, and although it shows up in BIOS and during POST, there's
no sign of it in Windows, unless I run dedicated drive recovery software.
Even then, it sees an unrecognized drive, rather than the partition, and is
unable to read or write anything from it.

Can anyone with any experience confirm whether this is likely to be a
potential case of logic card failure? Likewise could anyone who has
performed a successful logic card trasfer please point in the direction of
any useful information.

Before you attempt surgery, see whether active@ can see the partition.
Get a free demo from http://www.partition-recovery.com/partition.htm,
and if it sees the partition, pay the $29 for the program and recover
your drive.
