harddrive and DVD-Rom problems

E

Ed C.

Changed harddrives. Set new, bigger one as Master; old,
smaller one as Slave.
1)How do I make new Master the C: drive?
2)How do I purge the old drive to make it solely for
storage (i.e., Windows is still one that drive and won't
come off--do I uninstall Windows from that drive and how
do I do that?
3)DVD-ROM became disabled (Code 22) after harddrive
switch. How do I fix?

Thanks,
EDC

To ensure that everything will work at its best use the 2 IDE controllers
wisely.

IDE 1 - Connect to HDD1 [operating system disk] and Optical Disk2
IDE2 - connect to HDD2 [storage] and Optical Disk1

HDD1 jumpered as Master connected at end of IDE cable1
HDD2 jumpered as Master connected at end of IDE cable2
Optical Disk1 jumpered as Slave connected at middle of IDE cable2
Optical Disk2 jumpered as Slave connected at middle of IDE cable1

BIOS should then identify the HDD and Optical Disks

If you reboot with Windows XP installation CD it will identify the c: Drive
and prompt for location of installation, you can choose to format existing
partition and this will give you a 'clean' installation.

Once Windows is running you can choose to format the D Drive [second HDD].
