"hard error" first time after running chkdsk /f

When I run chkdsk on my NTFS drive (that I boot from) I usually get a
message saying that there is an error in my volume bitmap. If I run
chkdsk /f to schedule a boot-time check, the first time after I reboot,
many applications will not launch. Instead I get a message box that
says "Unknown Hard Error." After a reboot, the Unknown Hard Error goes
away.

I did extensive disk checking / fitness tests with several tools and there
are no issues with the disk.

See MVP Jim Eshelman's web page for STOP errors at
http://www.aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm and click on the "218: Unknown
Hard Error" link in the right side column.

Good luck

Hi Ron,

thanks for the hint, but there was no answer related to this problem. The
stop code in the described case is 0xC000021A not ...218

Please consider, that the machine is running absolutely fine, except the
first boot after running chkdsk. So instead of fixing things, under certain
circumstances chkdsk seems to corrupt the filesystem.

The problem is not limited to my box . e.g.
