Hard drive Problems

P

Peter

I have a WD 80 Gig ATA HD, that is recognized by BIOS, but when windows
loads up it will stop at "Loading Windows XP" screen. When I remove the
drive booting process is normal.

I have this HD setup as slave. I need to get in it, since it contains
very important dada.
Any suggestions what to do next? Running Windows XP SR2, Intel D945Psn
board.

Thanks Peter

How many drives do you have and how are they set up on each cable?

if you set this one on the same cable as the cd and both are slave it will
conflict.
are you sure you understand the jumper settings and set them correctly?
double check. I'm certain their is some kind of conflict with the primary
drive

Assuming all was well before.
Visit WD and download create their bootable floppy hd checking tool.
It sounds like your hd has failed.
Ummmm, very important data and no backup? thats a contradiction.

Maxtor and WD have problems residing in the same PC is my guess since you
didn't mention the primary master drive make. Its a low-level ide
communication problem, not related to any OS.

All my disk are WD. Primary is WD 120Gig. CD drives are on its own
port.

Dont use 'em myself but i think WD has a jumper setting for master with
slave.
Sounds like a jumper problem to me.

I will check the drive using the WD utility to night. Definitely not a
jumper issue. I am afraid, that the drive is gone, but still have some
hope in me of the opposite.

Did you reset the jumper on the primary from master alone to master w/slave
when adding the slave drive (both WDs)?
