Hard drive migration problems

This is my first attempt at migrating and I seem to be doing something
wrong. I have an XP home machine. 80GB Seagate Barracuda SATA "C" drive,
that I want to replace with a 320GB Seagate SATA drive. I'm using Seagate's
Disk Wizard. This is what I've done:
Original "C" drive is on SATA third master channel
I've physically installed "Target" drive on fourth master channel, started
Disk Wizard
Disk Wizard erases "Target" drive and asks what I want to do, I click copy
to new bootable drive and remove old drive.
Disk Wizard takes about two hours copying, then instructs me on what to do
when it shuts machine down.
As per instructions I disconnect my DVD drive and original "C" drive, and
connect the new "target" drive to the third master channel and reboot.
The machine posts, begins to load windows, then displays my desktop minus
ALL icons and buttons.
Any suggestions are appreciated, tia, rbm

That is your main problem, its a lot easier to use True Image instead.

While superficially the main downside with TI is that it isnt free,
you need a decent backup app anyway, and you can use it for
that after you have migrated.

Urk, that's pretty obscene.

Use True Image.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking into True Image and on the Acronis
website I saw they had a trial version of Migrate Easy, which I downloaded
and tried, and got nowhere, so I became skeptical of TI as well

Just wanted to let you know, I just downloaded a trial version of TI and
tried it on the machine. It worked flawlessly, Thanks
