Hard drive free space gone

FWIW. I have Drive Image 7.0 on my computer. My son suspects it may be

causing my problem. But I don't see how. It's not a continually running
program It only runs when I make an image and put it on my external
USB drive or when I use it to recover some files I saved in a previous
image. What do you think?

I had GoBack 3.0 but it stopped working, saying there was so much
activity that it had to stop remembering stuff. So I removed GoBack.
If that excessive disk activity really was going on maybe that has some
bearing on my problem. I'm now using Rollback RX Pro to protect my data.

I don't see how it can be Drive Image. I would look at Rollback Rx Pro.

Well I could not make the link between Norton Internet Security 2005
and the Protected Recyle Bin.

Have you looked at the Windows Recycle Bin? They can corrupt.

Copy any 1 mb data file rename and then delete. Does it appear in the
Recycle Bin? Does it go when you empty the Recycle Bin?

Using Disk Defragmenter individual system restore points invariably
fragment. Open Disk Defragmenter and select Analyse. After Analyse has
finished select View Report and look at the Most fragmented list.
After running Disk Defragmenter look at the list again to see if there
are still any files listed. Whilst on the subject of Disk Defragmenter
are the green bands solid or scattered across the disk?

I ran Disk Defrag first from Safe mode and then from WindowsXP. Analyse
shows 21 files as most fragmented. 3 VOB files are about 1GB each. When I
run Defrag it stops at 14% and reports complete but some files couldn't be
defragged. The Analyse list remains the same. It shows Used Space as 27GB
and free space as 50GB but Explorer reports Used as 63.4GB and Free as
10.6GB.

As for the green bands there are 2 sold bands. And large bands of red.
Volume frag reports Total frag 20% and file frag 40%.

Rock suspects Rollback RX. I deleted several Rollback backup items and
finally gained
about 2GB of Free Space. That's the first improvement on reported Free
Space in several weeks, even after having deleted almost 20GB of data from
my hard drive. I just started a "trouble" ticket with Horizon Data Systems
which provides Rollback.

Which suggestions did you actually try? Did you search your drive using
Windows Explorer as I suggested after making hidden files visible? Read my
earlier post for details.

Yes. It doesn't show anything unusual. I searched for Folder/files larger
than 1MB including hidden files and folders. I just searched for
Folder/files larger than 1GB and found 7. One was Recycle so I deleted
that. 4 were .VOB video files so I deleted them. They were all about 1GB
each. But, without rebooting yet, it shows no increase in Free Space.
Remaining items over 1GB are hiberfile.sys at 1GB and pagefile.sys at 1.5GB.

DELETING SOME OF ITS BACKUPS DID INCREASE MY FREE SPACE WHEN NOTHING ELSE
WOULD, I REMOVED THE PROGRAM. I HAD 13 GB FREE SPACE ON MY 76 GB HARD DRIVE
BEFORE DELETING AND NOW I HAVE 56.3 GB FREE SPACE.

I WANT TO THANK ALL OF YOU WHO HELPED ME THROUGH THIS TRYING PROBLEM.
