hard drive double spinups

When my hard drive spins up after the computer being idle, I can hear what
sounds like spinning up, then briefly spinning down, then up again.

Go to the hard disk manufacturer's web site and download their diagnostic software
respective to your hard disk. After the test, you will know if the hard disk is bad or
not..

Nothing looks too funky there. If David's advice doesn't help, try a defrag.
