Hard disk size

Alan Crowder

We have a Dell Optiplex GX260 and the guy wants to put
a 200GB hard disk into it, Dell only certify a 80Gb drive
and i was wondering if the system would even recognise
such a large disk?

Win2000 prof, could be XP pro if required.

Anybody any info on doing this?

Thanks
Alan

Its going to depend on the motherboard actually, best way to check would be
to throw a drive larger than 80gb in there and see if you can see over 80gb
first, then go for 200gb knowing you wont have support from Dell.

Find out who manufactured the mobo.
Go to their web site and download the spec for the mobo.
Should tell you what you need to know.

At worst, you would need to add a, say, Promise controller that would
support the drive.
