Hi,
It means exactly what its name implies: There is hard drive activity. There
can be many sources:
- Do you have tasks running when the system is not physically being used?
- Is it a new system? The indexing service may be cataloging, and will
eventually slow down.
- Did you or anyone install file sharing software? The activity may be your
system being accessed by other users (you do realize that using that
software sets up your system as a server to the rest of the community,
yes?).
- Did you recently work or have work done on the system? If the light is
continuous, it may be that it was out back on backwards.
Irregardless of any of these, does there seem to be any lack of performance
or problems otherwise? If so, then the activity is a concern and should be
investigated. If not, then chances are the activity is background service
that is designed not to interfere with your use of the system.
