My boot.ini looks like this:
[boot loader]
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
timeout=30
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows XP Home
Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
The short of it is: I have a problem with an eMachines T28933 OEM that
causes the following message: “<windows root> system32\hal.dll is missing”.
This message only occurs when I try to boot XP-Home from Startup Splash
Screen or when I try to boot into Safe Mode. If I don’t touch anything,
XP loads OK.
At this stage, I’m given to understand from the following that there is
a problem with this eMachines <boot.ini>
“The cause of this issue is the Boot.ini file is pointing to the
C:\WINNT folder, but Windows XP was installed in the C:\WINDOWS folder.”
I was advised to d/l “Fixlet # 6” from BigFix. Suffice it to say, I
can’t find a reference to Fixlet # 6 anywhere on their site or on the
downloaded program.
Does anyone have any idea how I can proceed to solve this?
