hal.dll and HDD not found

Hello everyone,

After normal operation yesterday, this morning I found a message that
hal.dll was missing. No idea what that was but googled it and found a
website recommending to run the recovery console from the installation
CD. I did so and at certain point, after loading, I message appeared
saying that the Hard Disk cannot be found and the only option given was
to exit and restart (the same process followed). The computer is an LG
P1 Express Dual I bought only 3 months ago in Spain (I'm based in the
UK so LG does not support their own brand laptops here as they are not
sold).

More details:
BIOS: PhoenixBIOS
IDE HDD: Fujitsu MHV2100BH-(S1)

Yesterday Windows insisted in updating IE7. It took ages
(unsurprisingly) but it was working ok after. Also, a couple of weeks
ago the CD drive disappeared. I thought it had something to do with the
installation of Napster I just had done the previous day. After a quick
system restore, it was back on track.

Grateful for any ideas.

Thank you.

As a first step you must pause the boot process so that you
can see if the BIOS recognises your hard disk.

That would tend to suggest either a HD or other hw failure
There should be a HD test utility available on Fujitsu site.
Afraid you'll probably have to return to Spain
