the rig ive designed feal free to say if ive picked somthing not up to scratch.

case = Antec P180 Silver
power supply = Tagan Turbojet 900W
processor = Core 2 Duo E6700 4MB cache
cpu cooler = Thermaltake Golden Orb Cooler
g/card = BFG GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB PCI Express
memory = 2GB Corsair DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX
board = Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe Socket 775
hardrive = 320GB Caviar SE16 SATA 300 ( i dont think the small speed increase of the raptor is worth the extras please say if i should change this item)
drive1 = BTC DVD-Rom x16
drive2 = NEC 4570A DVD-RW
cost is like 2000£ and 1 year returntobase and parts. designed it at wired2fire.

A very good system :)

I'm not sure if the price difference between the 6600 and the 6700 chips warrants the relatively small increase in performance.

Consider a Zalman 775 cooler, they're very good and very quiet.

Only those who've never experienced a Raptor drive, especially a pair in RAID 0, dismiss them as not worth the money.

Yes, they are bloody expensive but once you've tried one or two you'll understand why.

But, having said all that, the system above as chosen is really superb :thumb:

very very nice specification, however do you need a 900W power supply? they are pretty damn expensive...

The Quad Processor Core 2 Extreme QX6700 is possibly the best processor available on the market. It's very very good indeed. If you can afford it go for it. It's £705.00.

The Zalman cooler is very good.

No, you won't get a recovery disk. You really should stop thinking in that mindset 'recovery disk'. You've moved up a league now, the Win XP CD is in itself a recovery disk.

If ever you need help recovering a crashed system, post here and ask for help.

How much would Maplins charge to put that system together for you? It's a shame one of the forum guys isn't near you, they'd do it for you, and do it well.

2GB DDR2 PC-6400 SDRAM at 800MHz - 2 x 1024MB

Dual 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 7950 GT - SLI Enabled ( whats this card like aint heard much of it??)

AGEIA PhysX™ Physics Processing Unit (havent added this as i was told it dont add much to gaming is this right?))

video optimser AlienAdrenaline: Video Performance

500GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s, 7,200 RPM with 16MB Cache

18x Dual Layer DVD±R/W Drive

ah yes, only worth having a 900W supply if your going to have 2 power hungry cards in SLI.

just seeing if we can cut down some money is all :)

Alienware is big and expensive, but they are great machines.

this is where i custom built my computer, may be good if you had a little lookie: www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk

The power supply would be enough regarding the rest of the machine, and it does say it is designed for multi GPU's (basically more than one graphics card)

i actually run a 500W supply using one 7950GT card. yes, those cards are excellent, but the 8800's may be better in the long run because they are designed to use windows vista.

The phsyX card is only really worth it if you plan to play games which need it. since there are few games that require the phsyX card and the 2 7950GT's you are putting in will run all games to date at pretty much max settings then i wouldnt personally reccomend it. you may feel different though :). maybe get the card when it comes down in price (which it certainly will do).

also,do you really need 500GB of memory? i managed for 3 years with 80GB on my old rig..

yes looks reasonable for the money, coming from alienware.
what about the monitor/speakers if any?

does look great indeed, i dont think there is a catch though. i never heard of pc specialist, it might be new (correct me if im wrong anyone) so the stuff is pretty cheap. that was the same with cyberpower before those prices increased.

out of all of them, i dont think there are any huge 'rip offs', they are all excellent machines and will last.

it is a large sum of money, but go with whatever feels most comfortable. if money isnt an issue, go with alienware.or pcspecialist. sorry i am a bit vague... hm what does everyone else think? which site to buy from?

pcspecialist have been around for quite a while, i havent dealt with them personally but i've never heard anything bad about them (not that i've been looking), all of the systems you've specced up are pretty much the same so go with whatever one you want and keep us posted on how it all goes

BTW personally i wouldn't buy all the bits and take them to maplin, if your gonna go that route see if you can find a local PC builder that will put it all together and teach you at the same time
