guestbook entries not showing

My guestook worked fine until I went in thru my server to delete an entry &
don't know what has happened. I opened a new guestbook page in order to
compare the html coding in the new one with my original & did find this line
that was different in my page

<form method="POST" action="--WEBBOT-SELF--"
onSubmit="location.href='_derived/nortbots.htm';return false;"
webbot-onSubmit>

This line is added
" onSubmit="location.href='_derived/nortbots.htm';return false;"
webbot-onSubmit>
But I don't know enough about html to know if it should be there or not. All
I know is nobody seems to be able to add comments any more. Any ideas?

Hi sillyhp,

The _derived/nortbots reference is an indication the extensions are missing
or have become corrupt. In your case, corrupt. If you used FTP to make the
changes, that in itself would corrupt them.

Try resetting or reinstalling them from your site control panel. If the
option isn't available there, then maybe you host could do that for you.

make sure to use FP "Publish Web" to http, like you have done previously.

AMysticWeb,
I have uninstalled the fp extensions & then reinstalled, but I was doing
that to try & correct another problem. It was in that time period that I
found out comments were not working in the guestbook. I don't think I've
reinstalled them since I found out the guestbook wasn't working. When I get
home to my computer I'll try again. My host is extremely helpful, & their
server has fp extensions available, but they don't deal with frontpage very
often so are figuring this out along with me.

The FP extensions are requires for the guest book to function.

I know the FP extensions are required & they were installed, but it sounds
like the html has become corrupted in my guestbook. Do I need to delete the
corrupted line of html in my file or just start with a new guestbook file? If
I need a new file can I keep the log file? Thanks to you & AMysticWeb.

You will need to create a new one, and no you will not be able to use the previous "log" file.

Do you think changing the html will solve the problem? Getting rid of that
reference?

You will need to re-publish the page/site via FP's http mode.

This is for reference since you are trying to repair code.

Create another guestbook page through Frontapage and give a different name
ie: guest2.htm

Then enter your web address www.yourname.com/guest2.htm
Enter info and submit.

More than likely it will work. If so then open guest2.htm in frontpage and
also your original guestbook file and then compare the code.

If your new guest2.htm does not work, then it is something on the server
side. If it does work, then it is with your code on your default gusetbook
page.

Also note that after you create the new guestbook and it works, try running
your original and it might just work because of other files that you might
have deleted was put back.

Hope this helps ...
