guest book results

I have copied and pasted from FP 2003 template guest book to my page the
guest book comments box. It shows on website and you can write in it, but I
cannot get results to show or find where they go.
Website is yahuahseed.org if anyone can look and see what I have done to
mess up this page. ALL help is greatly appreciated since I have just enough
knowledge about all the behind workings of FP to be dangerous I'm afraid.

You can not copy and paste the guest book form. You have to create the guestbook via the File Menu |
New Page | Guest Book

You can't copy the Guestbook form. You need to create it from File, New,
More Templates, Guestbook. I recommend creating the Guestbook in it's own
sub web so that when you publish your root web you won't over write it.

Thank you for your reply.
Is a sub web the same as a folder? If not, how do I create a sub web?
Also I was told that once you name a page you cannot rename or move it or
the search engines will send an error for missing file. Is that true? The
person who created our website put everything on the main root and I would
like to create a folder for each section, ie pastor's desk, music, etc with
an index page for each folder. Can I go back and move all these pages and
rename them? Also how will that work with these frame pages?
I know it is a lot of questions, but all of this is new to me and I do not
want a mess!!

It's always a good idea to put different content into different folders to
make it easier to manage your site. For example, put all images into the
image folder. You can do this with folders or sub webs (also called sub
sites). See http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/frontpage/HA010429431033.aspx
for more information about this.

A sub web / sub site acts as it's own web. You can use this to put up
things like guestbook's, forums, blogs, discussion webs etc that have
content that you don't want mixed into your root web or content that you
don't want to overwrite when publishing your root web. You can also assign
unique permissions to sub webs to create password protected parts of your
web site. (normally your web host would have to set up the unique
permissions). To create a sub web you can make a folder (ex: Guestbook) and
then right-click on that folder and choose Convert to Sub Web (or Sub Site
depending on the version of FrontPage). The folder will now appear with a
little globe icon.

Thank you for the information on sub webs. When you said these sub webs will
not overwrite the main root does that mean I need to publish sub webs
separately after my main web? And again can I move and rename all the files
in my web once they have been published without any problems with links and
search engines?
I still have not been able to get my guest page to work. I was told to move
the results page, guestlog to the private folder and make sure form
properties linked to this file in the new location. I did all this after I
created the page (not copy and paste).
The site is yahuahseed.org if it helps to see what I have done.

If Subwebs allow you to publish the individual subwebs as needed or just the root web alone.

And again can I move and rename all the files

search engines?

No, as this will break the link in the search engines. Converting a folder to subweb, will not break
the search engine listings.

Have you tried recreating the guest book on the live/remote server from within FP?

The suggestion of creating directly on the live/remote server from FP is very
interesting. What are the disadvantages and how is it done?
Also since I am using frame pages could that be the problem with my guest
page?
Is there a way to see the problems that search engines have with our site? I
know I have moved or deleted some files!

Sorry for not waiting for reply, but I have new info.
I recreated page which now allows you to enter comment and upon submit it
links to a confirmation page that shows correct entry and even links back to
comments page. Now where are the comments for me to view. I went to private
guestlog and published to my local and it was blank. Now what?
Do I need some extensive study into frontpage and if so what do you
recommend? I have looked into online frontpage tutorials. Please help as I am
spending too much time with problems and not enough designing our site.
