Group policy logon scripts

w2k server. User logging onto terminal server.
Could someone please help me and stop me from going
insane!!! I have been playing with group policy logon
scripts for the past 6 hours, just trying to get it to map
a network drive!! Not too much to ask is it?? But
whatever I do the script will not run when the user logs
on.

I'm sure I've placed the script in the correct location, I
know the command works as I've copied it onto a command
line. I've enabled the slow link policy and set it to
zero. I've enabled run logon scripts synchronously to make
sure the network is mapped before the desktop appears, but
nothing seems to work, I know I must be missing something
really obvious, but can't work out what it is. Can
someone please put me out of my misery!

Thanks
Mark

Where is it in the policy? Under computers or users?

Hello Michael

It's in the users.

Where is the policy in relation to the user? Is the policy on the OU
containing the user or on the OU containing the machine? If on the machine
OU then Curtis provided your answer. You will need to enable loopback
processing in the policy.

Is it only the logon script that is not running? What about other settings
in the GPO, are they applied? Have you tried running gpresult? Do the users
have Read rights on the OU, and list object on the parent OU? Do they have
Read & Apply Group Policy rights on the GPO itself? Do they have access to
the logonscript path - in other words, have you tried browsing the the
script location in Windows Explorer when logged on as one of those users?

Hello Michael
The policy is is set against an OU containing users not
machines. I can't put the OU against the machine as it's
a terminal server and I need to put different policies
against different users on the same TS.

Thanks for your help with this.

Now I assume from your response, that the policy affects this user when they
log into any machine on the network. Is this the case? If not then you may
want to look at the permissions on the policy . Does it affect the user
involved? Remember if you applied the GPO on the users OU it will affect the
user on all machines not only the TS machine.

To see if the script is in the correct place drill down into the sysvol
folder (e.g C:\WINNT\SYSVOL\sysvol\monsters.family\Policies) and find your
policy. The script should be in a folder similar to this path
C:\WINNT\SYSVOL\sysvol\monsters.family\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C
04FB984F9}\USER\Scripts\Logon

Just some different info if you are trying to apply policy only to users as
they logon to the TS. Apply the GPO to the OU the TS box is in and enable
loopback processing. You can use many different GPOs on the TS OU in this
manner.

I am sorry if I am asking many questions, but there are so many variables to
account for in this kind of situation.

Yes the policy is intended to be based on a per user
setup, regardless of which machine they log on to. The
script shold be in the correct place because when I set up
the policy I used the "Show files" button and then used
the "Add" button on the same screen.
I've given the user full permissions on both the GP
Properties Security and the OU Security settings but still
no joy!

Does the event viever give you any kind of hint? Can you put a message box
in the script so when the user logs in it throws a prompt?
