Group Policy for Movie Maker 2.1

Hi,
The XP SP2 knowlege base article 883603 states that 'Windows Movie Maker 2.1
includes updates to Group Policy'. Any idea where these are? I've checked I
have all the latest .adm files on my Windows Server 2003 domain controllers
but can't find any reference to Movie Maker.
As I work in a school, I want to be able to change the deafult location for
saving movie files, temporary files and collections so that they're on shared
network locations.
Thanks for any help or suggestions!

The details of the three plicies are here:

No policy to control where stuff is read from and written to. By default it
is the output is user's "My Video" folder. You can redefine where which
folder is used as the "my video" folder by standard methods (for example via
tweakui).

However there is a problem with what you propose to do i.e. to point all
input output to be a networks drive. I dont think it is a good idea as
* video capture requires very fast hard disk access
* video itself takes a lot o space
* editing requires fast media access.

Thanks - really helpful.
I agree that I need to keep the temp files local, but because of the
excellent compression of .wmv I thought that the final 'save to' directory
could be a network drive.

Because I have different domain users with non-writable roaming mandatory
profiles who log on to my video editing machines, I am a bit stuck as to how
to get their 'collections' information to follow them and that's why I want
to get the collections onto their mapped network drive, even if the
underlying video file that the clips information points to isn't there.

Thanks again for the help.

Hello,

Their are no policies because this is not a program that could use such a
policy and cannot share its data in a cohesive manner

Movie Maker is not network aware...period.

Movie Maker can use a mapped drive...no problem, this does not imply network
awareness or ANY ability to share the same writable file with simultaneous
users or disperate users for that matter

Movie Maker does not understand shared files.

Movie Maker will overwrite prior information in a shared directory...you can
test this yourself, yes?

You can use a common source for project files and project media....you CANNOT
allow them to upload changes to that data unless they are an administrator of
that data.

There would be little point getting their collection information to follow them
unless you have a uniform structure for the mapped named drive, all they would
see is a series of red X's...they would spend more time looking for the correct
path...but if they ALL have the same path then the above applies.

It should be easy for you to write a small shell program that they run instead
of Movie Maker directly.....such a program could aquire their files bringing
them to the local machine...if you have a fast network, and sending all of the
files back to some common point for that user when the program is closed
down....
