Group policies in NT4 domain being upgraded to W2K

Brian

I have an NT4 domain that I need to upgrade to W2k in an existing
forest. The NT4 domain has some defined group policies. Will this
pose a problem for my upgrade? Will these group policies be
transferred to W2K?

Also, the domain controllers for this domain are running the 128-bit
encryption version of service pack 6. Will the high encryption
version of NT cause any problems for my upgrade?

You should not have any problem upgrading the NT4 domain into the existing
forest. Your group policies will not be upgrade any user\machine that these
were applied to will not change since the nt4 policies tatoo the registry.

Richard,
Thanks for your help. Do you know if the high encryption version of
NT4 will pose any problems?

Single small domain upgrade from NT4 to WIN2K.

The existing NT4 policies will port over, or will I need to apply them to specific OU's?

I believe that the ntconfig.pol file just gets left in the netlogon share,
so they continue to function and be managed just as before. They don't get
migrated into Group Policy.

However, there is a tool called gpolmig for migrating system policies.

Hope this helps

Oli is correct, if you will have NT clients. However, if you will have XP or
2k clients, you are much better off to port to GPOs.

As for gpolmig... it is rather worthless.
