Griouping similar tasks does not work

Hi,

I am running XP SP2 Home Edition.
I have the checkbox to indicate that I want the taskbar icons to be grouped
("Group similar icons in taskbar") checked, so the option is on.
When I open multiple instances of the same software, however, I see each
instance as a separate icon. The grouping does not appear to work.

Is there some other setting that I need to adapt before this works?

Thanks.

The taskbar groups when it runs out of room, or hits the minimum setting for
grouping.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\TaskbarGroupSize
[REG_DWORD] 2 will enable GroupSize automatically if you have two or more
similar window, 3 will enable when you have 3,etc.

Thanks. Indeed when I open some 8 instances of IE, it starts grouping the
icons.

However, I have checked the registry, and at the path you give below, there
is no TaskbarGroupSize. Does this mean Windows will use a default, which is
set fairly high?
I will try adding it myself, with value 2 and restart the PC.

Cheers :)

Yes, after the restart, with a setting of 2, my Taskbar icons are grouped as
soon as I open two instances of the same application.
Thanks :)
