Graphics Card

Roger

I have had a fault developed. when shutting down or leaving pc for awhile
monitor goes into standby, amber light. It will not restart on moving mouse.
The computer appears quite active. I have to switch off and wait a few hours
and it boots normal. On my graphics card is Creative labs CT 6970. My system
info also shows NVIDIA Ge Force DDR. Motherboard is ECS K7S5A
I have O/S xp pro IE7 OE6 I wonder if graphics card is going faulty.
Motherboard is shown as year 2001.
Any help grateful
"Roger"

Roger, it could be your graphic card since it's about seven years old.
Could also be a flaky power supply. Try removing the
Card and then reseat it. Also disconnect the Motherboard Main Connector
and reseat. How old is your CMOS battery?

Thank you for reply Rich, Unit was second-hand from son-in-laws friend. Have
had the battery out forgot to check voltage. Have an old one spare which
still reads 3v. Had removed card last night, cleaned fan dust off, replaced
and it did start !
Booted this morning ok, but not done a shutdown then reboot straight
afterwards yet, in case I can't use Pc this morning. Did have a tech in last
week,he removed all cards and ram replaced temp with his stuff but still
could not get a screen up.
Even connected another power supply. He thought it was motherboard heating ??
We got it running using Run sfc /scannow took about an hour finding files
from disc. That helped but not cured. I will try your advice and come back
when done
Regards "Roger" P.s. if it is card, what type would be compat with
motherboard.

Further update, checked all Rich's comments no change. Today had unit
working fine. Shut down when cool done above checks, restart no joy, PC
running all fans ok. Monitor remains no picture and amber light on. Turned
units off, also power mains.Returned few hours later, switched on mains
power, then monitor and green light came on, then pc, which started as
usual. And units boot normal. My question now is why when pc is not switched
on will the monitor sometimes come on and others times amber light stand-by
comes on.It appears to be memorizing the no boot situation. but when turning
of mains power for a while, most times monitor switches on. ?? oh dear.

I have an older Compaq computer that exhibits the same symptoms. If the
monitor does not come on and the power light is lit I press the power
switch again and it works fine. You could try that or using the reset
button to see if that works.

To All,
It looks as though we have found the problem, came across a monitor repair
site, and there was my fault. Appears monitor circuits are breaking down
causing lock up in stand-by on Monitor. Borrowed a spare monitor booting on
and off various times and no problems. So I have now brought a new 19"
monitor. Thanks for advice this could help others.

Roger, could you borrow another Monitor and try it. How does the Monitor
