hello all,
i recently installed windows vista ultimate in my pc. i went to check
my dx version in vista and came to know that it shows 506 mb of video
ram there while i hv only 256 mb(GeForce 6200).Then I came to know
that it was the shared memory of 239 mb in nvidia forceware. can
somebody say me how can i make my shared memory 0 mb??? this problem
was not happening with windows xp pro. also many games like nfs
underground 2 whic ran fully well in windows xp are lagging a bit in
windows vista. is this because of the ram?? i hv a i gb ram and vista
uses about 50% of it. can someone suggest me how to decrease the ram
usage of vista???? THANKS IN ADVANCE.

You CANNOT reduce the RAM useage of Vista. You need to have 2 GB's of
system RAM to comfortably run Vista. With 1 GB you should be using XP.

"Disable TurboCache on GeForce 6200 TC from the drivers... - 2007/04/23 15:24

Hi all, I recently bought a 2nd hand MSI GeForce 6200 TC PCI express 128MB
supporting up to 256MB (NV44 Rev A2). Since I have 128MB on board, I try to Google
around and search on how to disable the TurboCache feature but to no avail. Finally,
using ForceWare 81.94 drivers and RivaTuner, I found a key value that disable the
TurboCache feature.

Using RivaTuner, under power user tab, open matched database, and then NVIDIA ForceWare
81.94 system, I set the value to "1" on RMDisableRenderToSysMem and restarted my PC. I
found that the control panel is now showing only 128MB. Here is the benchmark results
using ForceWare 81.94 with and without TurboCache.

GeForce 6200, TurboCache Enabled...
- 3DMark01 : 9702
- 3DMark03 : 2785

GeForce 6200, TurboCache Disabled...
- 3DMark01 : 9623
- 3DMark03 : 2770

A little drop without TurboCache enabled. Maybe due to less memory to render the scene
but I hope this helps people with system less than 1GB memory."

I don't know if that modification wlll work for Vista, but perhaps you can trace
down a Vista version of that mod, based on "RMDisableRenderToSysMem".

HTH,
Paul
