GRAPH slowdown problem with Norton AV

I am automating production of Powerpoint slides using VB.Net.

On one machine the application runs 25 times slower at certain points than
on other machines (things take 2.5 secs rather than 0.1 secs).

From debugging this I have found that it occurs whenver a shape containing
a GRAPH object is 'touched' by the code.

When this occurs the process appsvc32.exe jumps to the top of the CPU usage
list in task manager.

This process is part of Norton Antivirus.

Has anyone else encountered this problem - or experienced Powerpoint
running slowly with Nortoan AV running?

And has anyone found any solution - other than diabling Norton or turning
off the option to check programs when they start?
(I am experimenting with Norton settings on Monday.)

Thanks

Norton has been known to mess up presentations. Turn it off and see what
happens

There is a setting in Norton that disables the Office file scanning. It is
usually a good idea to disable these scans (as long as you are sure you are
dealing with virus-free files).

Personally, I do not care for the Norton personal/professional versions at
all. The Corporate versions of their Anti-virus software are much less
invasive into the host system. Because of the invasive nature of their
products, I no longer use Norton brand anti-virus protection.

HOWEVER, running Norton is far, far better than not running anything. So,
I would look at the Office checkbox in the Norton software and see if
turning off that one aspect of their scanning has the desired effect.
