Grammar Grayed out

I cannot seem to fix my grammar or spell check. I have re-installed the
product, but it does not get misspelled words, and grammar is all grayed out
too.

Any ideas?

I have a similar problem. My spell ckeck ( in Word 2002) is grayed out and
the option to hide spelling errors in the document is checked, but since its
grayed out and essentially locked, I can't change it. The language is set to
English, so is there any way to turn on my spell check?

Well, I don't know. I know I didn't protect it, but how do you check that?

I actually checked it and its not protected, but the spell check is still
locked in that document and all others.

Perhaps you Proofing Tools are corrupted or not installed? You might try
using Help | Detect and Repair.
