Got rid of lovesan/blaster but still infected

I was infected with the blaster virus, but I updated my
virus checker and got rid of it. However I keep getting a
window coming on the screen saying that the virus has been
detected in c:/system volume information, followed by
brackets and a very long number, and tells me to run the
virus checker I then run the virus checker, but nothing is
found. Then about ten minutes later the window comes up
again, telling me I have the virus in ...............Can
anybody tell me how to stop it. I go to the folder but it
won't let me in so I can't delete it manually, Thanks
Robert

The system volume info directory is part of the system recovery service and
is read-protected by default. Your system is not necessarily infected, only
the recovery folder keeps copies of the virus files. However, should you
need to restore a previous system state, it would be no fun at all restoring
the blaster along with it.

I am not sure what would be the effect of wiping off files from this folder
without updating the enclosed index files, in case a recovery is necessary.
An MVP's advice would be the useful on this issue.

You can gain access to this folder and do a cleanup using the info at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:
80/support/kb/articles/q309/5/31.asp&NoWebContent=1 "How to Gain Access to
the System Volume Information Folder." Make sure you follow the
instructions and reset the restrictions on the folder in the end. Everything
should work just fine after this, but, again, I don't know whether a
recovery -- should it be necessary -- would succeed at the cleaned-up
recovery points.
