Why am I still unable to use the Google Search Engine?
(i.e. unable to get ANY results when typing ANYTHING into
the search bar)
I thought I had a virus infection which prevented this
but I have run different types of virus scanners and a
Trojan host removal tool, none of which shows any such
problem with my PC.
This has been going on for months now, surely there is
something that can fix this somewhere.
Fortunately I am able to use ALTAVISTA at present.
Note that I have the same problem with Lycos as I do with
google in that I just get a 'page unavailable notice'

Thanks for any help,
G.

Have you tried running Ad Aware, it might pickup something missed by
antivirus software:

After you run it, be sure to delete the IE cache. Open IE, go to Tools,
select Internet Options, on the General tab, click Delete Cookies, Delete
Files and accept the option to delete all offline content and Clear History.
Then go to the Privacy tab, be sure your settings are set to medium as
opposed to high, click edit under Web Sites and be sure Google isn't on the
list set to block. You might also check the Security tab, click the Default
Level button. If that doesn't resolve it, again, clear the cache, then
click Custom Level and whatever level to which IE is set, try a lower level
and see if that resolves it.

I've noticed, at times, that my IE language settings are not right at
Google. If I right click the page and switch from Encoding> Western
European (Windows) to UTF-8 or the other way around, Google starts working.
