Good rival for MetaPad

Found this the other day: "Ted" (not to be confused with the Nix rich
text editor) -- a small notepad written in pure ansi C. Good thing
about it, is that it has some unique text editing functions, like
replace blocks of text, and great sort routines.

its here: (http://jsimlo.sk/notepad/)

I have used Metapad for a good, good, good long time.
http://welcome.to/metapad . Hard to believe that there would be anything
as small and fast.

I know that Metapad uses " ANSI C with the Win32 API " which is why it is
so fast.

I'll give TED a try but it would be very hard to switch to another editor
since I'm so use to Metapad.

I like Metapad a lot, but I can't get it to work with Unicode characters
for some reason. Switching to Unicode mode doesn't seem to help ...

Exactly the way I feel.

Win32Pad is close.

Notepad2 is another fine one.

SubPad is another fine offering from Xtort

BDV Notepad is very close.

You've got to try BDV NotePad. It has sticky search and/or sticky replace.
Great for searching huge, random notes you accumulate.

Metapad does all (and more) than I need ...... I would need a really
compelling reason to even evaluate TED.
