Thanks
AFAIK no inkjet printer can do metallic inks.
The only type of printer I know of that could do that was the ALPS
printer range, which could do some metallic inks, and also print with
WHITE ink.
However the ALPS printers have been out of production for some years,
although they occasionally turn up on eBay. They are much sought after
by modellers, who can use them to print custom decals.

Have a look at this website about ALPS printers:

Yes, the ALPS (and OKI, plus other clone makers) printer range is the
only one that can do this at costs that are bearable by individuals or
small shops: in the region of $1000 or less.

ALPS and OKI produce the inks still, with some variety in ribbon
length and colors offered---but either can be used in ALPS or OKI
printers.

Inks that are available from ALPS for printing in CMYK or
spot-printing format (i.e., not talking about dye-sublimation inks
here):

From ALPS:

- C,M,Y,K
- Spot White (normal white)
- Metallic silver & gold
- Foil silver & gold
- Base white (for T-shirt prints)
- various primers and finishes (burnishing and gloss---no color laid down)

From OKI, in addition to the above, there are:
- Red, green, blue
- Metallic red & blue

Kodak offered an Orange.

The last model, the MD-5500 was sold until November 2011, support in
Japan (I am in Tokyo) is ongoing until at least 2015, and supplies
similarly.

The best resources are the Yahoo ALPS and Alpsdecal groups, where you
will find plenty of documentation for operation and trouble-shooting
(ALPS printers have individual personalities since each must be tuned
for the printhead).

My little claim to fame is spending about a year hacking the latest
Windows driver (version 2.3.2) which was only available in
Japanese. This supports the MD-5500, which was never sold outside
Japan, and several other small improvements. The driver is available
from the driver folder in the Alps group file section.

If you are interested in any ALPS printers, and/or supplies, please
feel free to contact me.

Is this sample printed by that Alps ?

It seems that is not printed with any type of printer. It seems that is a
type of thermal transfer of a film ready cut.
Think the adhesive vinyl made for signs. But not adhesive, just adhesive by
heat. But with this method you can print only one color a time. You need a
vinyl cutter http://www.vectorgraphics.com/equipment/pro-series.html and a
heat press.
Just a question, do you have any relation with the corresponding site? If
yes, I have a question for you too.
