Going from Win2000 to XP Pro

I currently have Win 2000 Pro on the primary partition of a disk that
contains three partitions. Partition 2 is data and 3 is blank. I have all my
data backed-up. I want to wipe the primary partition and install XP pro. If
I don't like it, I want to wipe it again and reinstall Win 2000. I am 90%
sure I have no need for a dual-boot system. I have heard of problems with
drive letter assignments. Will I be okay simply reformatting the primary
partition and installing XP Pro from CD? Any other suggestions are
appreciated.

Thanks,

Evan

Hi Evan,
What kind of drive letter assignment issues have you heard about? I've done
what you're describing before and I never had any problems.

That will be fine. It will get the letter C:. Any uncertainties over
other letters can be resolved later, in its Disk Management, which will
allow letters of other partitions to be changed.

What I would do though is start off with an upgrade, running the XP Pro
CCD (and it can perfectly well be an Upgrade rather than full one) from
the Win2000. that will retain your installed applications. Going back
- should you decide to do so - would need a reformat, but the upgrade is
normally entirely successful

Hmm. I wound up booting from the CD. I deleted the primary partition and
then created it and chose to install on that partition. My luck, it
installed to the D: drive. Any ideas?
