Ok. I'm going to shoot myself, this is so frustrating.

All my sound comes out fine EXCEPT the vocals.

I feel like I've done everything to try to fix it, I'm gone into my control
panel, my volume options, my WMP10 equalizer, etc etc etc. Nothing works.

This would be great if I was into Kareoke. But I'm not, and I want to hear
the singing voice!

What is the source of the vocals? IS it a particular input, or file type
or ...? I can't believe it is extracting the non-vocal part from song
tracks.

No, its all just normal music.

And you can hear the vocals, but theyre really low, and faint.

It sounds as if there was an open ground somewhere in the wiring and that
the speakers are getting stereo "difference" information but all sounds
common to both speakers would be weak or non-existent.

I had a similar problem. The backing instruments were loud and clear, while
the main vocals or solo instrument was faint and had excessive echo.
When I tried HP's PC Doctor, I discovered a lack of stereo seperation. A
sound that was to play through only the left or right speaker would sound
through both speakers.
I then went to volume control. Start>All
Programs>Accesories>Entertainment>Volume Control. I have a SoundMAX Digital
Audio card. While playing music, I played with the Balance sliders. The main
Volume Control slider seemed to work, but the Wave Balance didn't. The sound
actually seemed louder when I moved the control to the right or left!
Then I went to the pulldown menu at the top and selected Options>Properties
and selected the Playback option. Below that is a listbox with checkboxs
that allow you to select which audio playbacks will be displayed. I checked
the Stereo Wide box and OK.
The stereo wide slider doesn't have a movable balance slider, but the volume
slider works. When I turned it down, I got stereo seperation in the wave
control. Then I clicked the Advanced button on the Stereo Wide control and
there it was: a checkbox for "Apply 3D effect to digital audio". (What
genius thought that up and made it on by default?) After unchecking it, the
problem was corrected.
