Deciding to do a clean install of WinXPhomeSP2 on two drives with Win98SE on
them, using FDISK I partitioned the drives and formatted them.

However, when I attempt to boot, the GOBACK opening screen opens and goes
into an infinite loop.Where the heck is this coming from? I've reformatted
the C: drive 3 times (with and without the system files) and still the
problem crops up and I can't access the CD-ROM drive..

Unfortunately, I can't boot from my CD-ROM drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think there is some missing information or you have not
accomplished what you thought you did.

What are you booting from then? If you are booting from your C
drive, and getting GoBack looping, you have not formatted the C
drive, or the C drive is not the boot drive.

You will have to go into your CMOS System RAM and change the BIOS
settings so that you CAN boot from the CD drive. That is the
only way you can delete/create partitions and format the drive
the operating system is on.
You MUST boot from the CD. Or, I suppose, floppies, but ...
you cannot install XP from floppies.
Set your BIOS to boot from the CD drive and it'll work for
you. See your computer manual for how to access the BIOS
settings during computer startup.
