Go News went away

Elbert

Hi,
I set up OL 2003 SP1 to be my news reader. From the
standard toolbar, I selected add or remove
buttons|customize|commands|go and then dragged News to
the Go menu. I then selected Go|news, set up a user name
and email address, downloaded all 400 million news
groups, signed up for microsoft.public.windows.tabletpc,
and read some news in that group.

That was an hour ago. Now, News no longer appears on the
Go menu. I figured I'd just put it there again, but when
I do add or remove buttons|customize|commands|go, News is
no longer listed as a command in the Go category.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Elbert

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

Thanks for the help.
tried a search. In my case, sometimes frustration leads
to stupidity.

Well, maybe stupidity isn't as bad as I thought. I just
tried to search and was told to come back in a few weeks.

Thanks again for your help.

Just above where I read your reply, there are three
buttons: New Post, Post Reply, and Search. I clicked
Search and got this in a popup:

We are in the process of upgrading this site to a new
version, as a part of the upgrade we have disabled search
for this site. In the next few weeks this site upgrade
will be complete, including a new Search with improved
functionality. Thank you, Microsoft Communities.

Which newsreader are you using? If you are using Outlook Express, that is
not how you search a newsgroup.
You can use Edit > Find > Message...for a standard search of the newsgroup.
For a more robust one, use Google.
