Go Live License

Okay, I have an ASP .Net 2.0 application under the GoLive license. I am
hearing about certain bugs that have been fixed in the June CTP (images in
local hosted reports for example, they only work in the June CTP apparently).
Does the GoLive license extend to all releases made after Beta 2 (can I go
live with the June CTP to fix some bugs I am having)?

If this is not the case, is there a Beta 3 coming out with its own GoLive
license soon? I really need to have images on my reports, and I cannot seem
to find a workaround for the bug in Beta 2.

Hi,

the list of products to which GoLive applies:
http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/vs2005/golive/products/

June CTP of Framework/VS is not on that list so I doubt that they'd be
included. Note that CTPs can be more unstabile the actual betas because
betas get much more testing and build stabilizing than CTPs.

And there won't be beta 3. Next release is the RTM in November.

Are there any workarounds for bugs in Beta 2 prior to the RTM in November.

Specifically I need a workaround for the images bug in locally hosted
reports (where images just don't display in locally hosted reports), but
there are a few others I have heard as show stoppers from others.

It is a little late in the game unfortunately to redo the reporting in
another technology, so I am hoping for something that will actually let me go
live prior to November.

Yes, I posted a bug, and forum questions on it. From one of the forums, I
heard that it was a bug that had been fixed in the June CTP, which is why I
was hoping that route could help me resolve the issue.

I hadn't been able to find this bug already listed, which is why I reported
it, but the impression I got from the forum response was that it was already
known as a bug.

There have been other bugs I have been reported where the eventual reply was
that it was fixed, but no bits on the fix or workaround on what to do until
then. Don't get me wrong, it has Beta in the title, so I expect bugs, and I
am glad to hear they are fixed for the RTM, but this is frankly the first one
I haven't been able to work around until the RTM comes out. Hopefully,
either Microsoft or someone will see a workaround I am missing.

Thanks for your rapid response, it is appreciated!

The June CTP *is* a Beta 2 release.

It's an *advanced* Beta 2 release, but it's still a part of Beta 2.

Note that the June CTP *identifies itself* as "Beta 2"
in all the opening screens.

The Go-Live license covers any updates
to Beta 2 in sections 7 and 7.1 of the Go-Live license :

7. Updates; Subsequent Releases.

7.1
In the event that Microsoft makes bug fixes, security fixes or other error
corrections to the Pre-Release Software available (collectively, "Updates"),
such Updates shall be deemed included in the defined term
"Pre-Release Software" and subject to the terms and conditions of
this Supplemental License.

Recipient agrees to use commercially reasonable efforts to install such
Updates for purposes of updating the applicable Pre-Release Software.

So, it seems that not only is *any* CTP release covered by the
license, in order for your Go-Live license to remain in effect,
you *must* install any "bug fixes", "security fixes" or "other error
corrections" ( the CTP updates ) in order for your Go-live license
to remain in effect.

Of course, this is just a layman's interpretation.
You may want to consider consulting a lawyer for legal advice.

Good shot Juan,

I understand that so too from that text. However, they don't tell it very
clearly on GoLive license Page I linked to as its quite exactly on the
product list. At least they should somehow update it ("includes also June
CTP") etc.

What says on the product isn't 100% reliable however (with June CTP might be
as it's not so far from beta 2 but I'd still remember the stable vs unstable
issues). In the becoming builds for example "beta" title is already removed
from the product as far as I know (this info dated July 05) so what if next
CTP won't anymore indentify as beta 2? :)

I think it's better just to confirm by someone at MS.

And to add, I asked my MVP Lead about this. It is as says on Rob Caron's
post. GoLive applies only for beta 2 products, literally those listed on
GoLive site. You cannot apply a bug fix by upgrading to June CTP.

So option is to try finding out if there is a workaround for it. I suppose
that they'll release also RC (Release Candidate) at some time frame, so that
could provide help earlier than waiting to RTM however that's not option
until it is released.

Good luck!
