go from domain to workgroup back to domain

Ok,
I have my work computer that is joined to a domain. I took
it home last night and (like an idiot) removed it from the
domain and added it to my workgroup at home. After it
rebooted I couldn't log in because I didn't know any local
machine accounts.
So today I come in and have the admin add me back to the
domain. So he does and then he gives my computer a
different name for some reason. So then I can get on the
network and see everything, but no one can see my
computer. When they ping my machine name it resolves the
IP address, but it says host not found.
So then we renamed my computer back to the original name
and the admin ran some kind of a SID utility on my
computer and still doesn't work. !!!
Somebody please help. I never imagined that going from the
domain and back was going to be this big of a deal.

Any help would be great.
Thanks.

first of all, you don't need to remove the domain to connect to the home
network. Now, regarding the host not found, there are many possibilities.
have your administrator remove the old name and re-join it? what do you get
if using nslookup on your computer?

Well, that wasn't necessary. Did you ask him why he did this?

What's the reason anyone needs to connect to your computer, if you have a
domain? Everything should be stored on the server....

I'm not sure what your admin is doing, or why. None of this was necessary.
All they needed to do was rejoin the laptop to the existing domain account.

If you need to share data on your laptop for some reason (which I
discourage), try deleting/resetting the shares.

Note - you don't need to change to a workgroup just to access resources on
it. You shouldn't play with your laptop's network settings at all. Once
you've logged in using your domain account (using cached credentials), and
have an IP address on the home network, you can map drives, use printers,
whatnot, very easily - one way, in a command line:
