Giving up on Hijack/Virus remedies

OK. They've beaten me! My Windows XP Home is on life
support from virus/browser hijack. Downloaded and tried
latest CW Shredder, AdAware, Spybot, Spy Sweeper 3.0, and
Spy Guard. Most found a lot of files which were
quarantined or deleated. Bottom line - IE will not start
and has lost connection. Windows XP will not open files
(had to run programs above in safe mode), will not allow
restore and basically has been taken out of my control.
Can anyone tell me how to format HD and reinstall my
purchased OEM version of Windows? Don't know anything
else to do.

I had to buy a second harddrive, install it and slave the
original and have updated security regularly since. This
saves your files.

Go here: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

and follow the directions. You'll be very pleased with
the protection you get from malware files such as browser
hijackers and trojan downloaders. And it's a simple
fix. Be sure to add the site to your favorites because
they update it and you'll want to download and apply the
updated files every two weeks or so.

Enjoy your web browsing!
