I'm using Windows XP pro; IE6.
When browsing the web, most of the GIF images look awful.
I have tried both "smart dithering" enabled and disabled.
It doesn't make a difference.

try another browser, like Avant browser,it's free from
www.download.com
put avant in the search and download it,It's got every
option that 6.0 has and more!If you don't like it
add/remove will take it out.

Are you running anything like Earthlink Accelerator?

No, Frank. But, I did figure out the "problem."

In my Display Properties --> Settings tab --> Advanced
dialog box, there is an option for DPI Setting. That was
set to "125% normal size (120 dpi)". Apparently, IE uses
this setting to render the GIF, and was resizing all the
GIFs -- introducing the distortion.

I changed this setting to "Normal size (96 dpi)" and now
the GIFs are not being resized inside IE. All the web
pages look much better.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200.
