Get "not responding" when clicking "MY COMPUTER"

G

Gene Hughes

My Computer has stopped working. When I double click the
my computer icon on the desktop or click the my computer
shortcut in the tray my computer starts up and displays
the left window pane and then displays a blank pane over
the top of it. Looking in the tray I only see one
instance of my computer running but if I open the task
manager and look there are two instances in the
application window. They both say not responding and
ending either one of them ends both. If I wait a couple
of minutes it will finally display the my computer window
with a list of drives. But clicking on any of the
produces no results. Closing the application by clicking
the close box will clear my desktop for about 20 seconds
and then rebuild the desktop. I've run a total system
virus scan, applied one critical update and looked at the
list of running processes for something unusual.

Any suggestions will be appreaciated.
