Get no response when insert software application CD

Recently the computer the does not automatically respond correctly when a
music, video, or software application CD is inserted. For example, before
this problem when I inserted a audio or video CD the appropriate software
that I initially specified would play the contents. If I inserted a software
application, windows installer would be activated. Now when I insert a
CD/DVD, video, audio, or new application software nothing happens. As a
result I have been resorting to use Windows Explorer to locate and run a file
on the CD.

I would like to restore the automatic feature that opened the appropriate
software (that which I initially specified) when I insert a CD/DVD.

Why doesn't Search work?
Open Explorer and go to the Windows\inf folder. Locate the srchasst.inf
file. Right click it and select Install. You'll need your XP CD or the files
from the i386 folder. (This fix will require you to have your Win XP CD).

The Windows\inf folder is a hidden folder. You can adjust your Explorer
Folder Options (View tab) to Show hidden files and folders. You can also
click Start, Run and enter %SystemRoot%\inf to open directly to the inf
folder.

### What good is information that only applies to those who bought the XP
CD? Those of us who bought PCs with XP already installed can't usually USE
the included XP CDs as these sites describe! Why don't they describe how to
use the XP CDs when gotten from the PC mafgs?

You don't really sound so free spirited with that comment, but then again,
maybe you do. As one could only imagine, we (generically speaking) can only
base options/suggestions and fixes on the mass from which they come from.

In other words, if my help does not suit your needs, the fixes were derived
from the norm. That said, sorry that my information has not lead you to
fulfilling your needs within XP, which I am not responsible for.

Good luck!
