Get error message when I try to reinstall windows XP

When I try to reinstall Windows XP ( I enter my key code) I get the error
message "The Product ID which you entered is invalid, Please try again"
I ran the WGA Diagnostics and it says my copy of windows is genuine.
My key code matches what is displayed in the diagnostics and my serial
number matches.
I verified the key code twice and had someone read it to me as I entered it.
Still get the same message.
Some background on this key code, it was given to me by MS support after I
had problems using my original one(s) (they also gave me another key code for
my other computer and I am having the same problem with that one).
So I have two computers that say they are genuine and validated but I can't
do a reinstall to clean up the clutter.
They run fine with no issues right now but what happens if I'm forced to do
a reinstall instead just trying to clean up.

If you are 'cleaning up the clutter' by a reinstall - that implies clean
install - which if you can still boot to the old OS, you aren't doing. In
order to do a clean install - you would have deleted the partitions by now.

What 'diagnostics' are you speaking of?
There is no built-in way to see the Windows XP Product key. Something like
Belarc Advisor or Magic Jelly Bean Keyfinder are required to pull a key from
a currently working PC.

Do you still also have the original product key for the machines (on a
sticker or written down safely somewhere?)

It's called the WGA diagnostics software put out by microsoft. You run it and
it gives you a full report on your system including whether your os is
genuine and validated. It does not give you all of your CD key just enough so
you know that you are using the right one. Besides I used jellybean key code
finder and it also was the same key code.
I have genuine and validated copies of winxp pro installed and I just can't
seem to do a reinstall.
It doesn't matter what kind of install I'm doing the point is when I enter
my key code I receive an error message.
