get automatic disconnected every 60 min.

hi ,
my conmputer (laptop) gets disconnected every 60min. when i connect via the
buildin modem (Motorola SM56 data fax modem). I tried different providers
from different places but the thing keeps disconnecting without warning. The
option for automatic disconnection is unchecked. Also i dont think a virus
would disconnect exactly after 60 min. isnt it?

Any help is appreciated cause the problem drives me crazy.

Btw i am using Windows XP home

First look at the modem settings and be sure that the device is not set
to hang up after "x" number of minutes of idle time. Then go to the
System applet in Control Panel, Hardware>Device Manager. Find the
modem's entry and double-click it to get its Properties. If there is a
Power Management tab, click it and uncheck the box that says "allow
Windows to turn off this device when not in use". Since you have a
laptop, also check in the power management schemes.

not checkable (gray) and is unchecked

If the power management tab is there but greyed out, then power
management is being done by the laptop's power management software. Was
there anything there?

Does the disconnect happen exactly after 60 minutes? If so, then you've
got some software that is doing it. Only you can see your computer so
only you know what is installed. What about from the ISP's standpoint?
Do you have an ISP that disconnects you after being online for "x"
number of minutes?

My dialup lasts 2 hours then gets disconnected. It is the way the service
works, look on your service providers website or ring and ask support- it's
probably their settings. If it is not then you can start looking.
