GENUINE WINDOWS XP

I purchased an upgrade Home XP from Win98 several years ago and I still have
the key etc. About 18 months ago I upgraded several components on my PC and
while it was in the shop I think that they changed my OS to WinXP Pro.
Following the forced installing of the WGA software, everytime I log on I am
told that my copy of Windows is not genuine.

How can I resolve this? I can't take it back tp the shop that did the
upgrade as they are no longer there.

You have to do a clean format/install with the Windows XP Home CD, using
your old Windows 98 CD as upgrade "proof" for eligibility. All information
on the drive where you are installing Windows XP Home will be lost. Backup
your important files to a CD/DVD before you begin the reinstall.

Since the "shop" changed you to the Pro version, they would also have to
provide you with the legal installation media for it. Did they? If
not, they gave you a pirated version - so go talk to the shop to force
them to give you a legal copy.

You have several problems - you knowingly used a computer without a
licensed OS, did nothing to resolve it, and now you've been caught.

Just save your data, take your Win98 CD and the Home Upgrade CD, wipe
the machine, reinstall XP Home (using the 98 CD to validate the upgrade)
and you'll be able to validate again, properly.
