Generic/Text Only font selection commands

i am trying to enter a control code in the Select 17 Cpi text box on the font selection tab for an Epson DFX-8000 printer using the Generic/Text Only printer driver in Windows XP. However the control code starts with Escape. Whenever Esc is pressed, it cancels the printer properties window instead of entering the Esc code into the Select 17 Cpi text box. In Windows 98 pressing the Esc key enters the <esc> code into the text box, how can I enter this control code into the box in Windows XP

Hold down the alt key and enter 27 on the numeric keypad then release the
alt key. Make sure you have num lock on.
