Generic modem drivers fail to work with modem.

With XP, I used a generic modem driver provided by XP and/or Windows Update.
I did not use the vendor driver.

I notice Vista has generic 56 K modem drivers, so why don't they work with
my Creative 56 K modem like they did in XP? Creative offers no support for
the device

Is there a list of modems that the generic driver supports? Why weren't the
generic modem driver/s upgraded from their XP versions.

I expect I will need to purchase a modem. It will be an external USB modem
as I only have 2 of the old PCI slots. USrobotics looks like a possability.

Scott,

You are on the right track. That is, you need a modem compatible with
Vista. Yes, U.S. Robotics is one vendor to consider. I don't know why Vista
has no modem drivers for your modem.
