Generic host processes for Win32 has encountered a problem

Hi,

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me.

I am running XP Media Edition. After 2 minutes on the internet I keep
getting the message "Generic host processes for Win32 has encountered a
problem... please save all documents" it then proceeds to close down before
you can even save documents.

I have run my AV it seems to finds a virus but it keeps re-appearing.

I have reformatted my hard disc twice and run Kill Disc but still no joy.

I am pulling my hair out - any help would be much appreciated.

Try booting into Safe Mode and run your anti virus program that way being
sure to use the latest definitions for whatever you scan with. You may also
want to try another antivirus program such as the free version from AVG if
yours does not seem to do the job. A more appropriate newsgroup to post in
would be Microsoft.public.security.virus as it is dedicated to these type of
issues. If you reformatted your hard drive twice to do a pristine install of
the operating system soimething is wrong. Maybe you are backing up files
that are infected, using malicious software without even knowing it, or are
not using authentic version of XP. The links below may be helpful.

What antivirus are you using? If yours cannot properly remove a
known virus then you need to get some assistance from another source,
such as one of the following free online scanners:
Bit Defender http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
Trend Micro http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Kaspersky Online Scanner http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan
WindowSecurity.com TrojanScan http://windowssecurity.com/trojanscan
Webroot http://www.webroot.com/

Also what is the name of the virus that your av software keeps
finding? That may help to locate a specific cure, as there are some
very tricky new viruses circulating.

There are anti virus News Groups specifically for this type of discussion !

microsoft.public.security.virus
alt.comp.virus
alt.comp.anti-virus
