General Question 32Bit VS 64 Bit

I am new to Vista and my wife got a new Acer PC and we are very happy with
it. My question, under system our AMD 5600+ shows up as a 64 Bit CPU.
But we are running a 32 Bit Copy of Windows Vista. The software has
exceeded our expectations. We are curious though, why the 32 bit Vista and
not the 64 bit copy? Does the 32 bit support more programs?

Unless you have a pervasive or mission-critical 64-bit app to run, don't
waste time in Vi$ta x64. Stay with 32-bit XP.

Out of curiosity, is there a 64-bit DotNet Framework? Is there a 64-bit
IE 7?

Yes and yes, both come built into the operating system.

Most 32-bit games and applications work just fine on Vista x64.

Stick with 32 bit Vista, mainly for compatibility reasons, such as device
drivers and the majority of most software you are likely to run will do just
fine with Vista 32 bit and 4 GBs of RAM. Vista 64-bit true power lies in its
ability to address large amounts of memory beyond 4 GBs, since the buck
really stops at 4 GBs for 32 Bit Vista. There have been performance test
that yes prove that Vista 64-bit performs good with 4 GBs or more RAM but
then again, there are trade offs such as compatibility which I previously
mentioned.

Some other nice features of Vista include all device drivers must be signed
before they can be installed on the system, Patch Guard which prevents the
OS kernel from be patched or altered by third party software. So, there are
some try security benefits there too.

I purchased Windows Vista 64 bit last April and its taken me awhile to get it working
right but I'm running it with 6 GB of Ram and an Intel Quad processor and it flies! There
are driver issues but they are being overcome. The Microsoft updates took care of a lot
of the problems I was having. My main reason for choosing the 64 bit was to gain
experience with it plus the fact that I hear this is the area where Microsoft is
concentrating their efforts and sooner or later it will become the option of choice.
There are some web sites that do not yet support a 64 bit browser (mostly those that
require Flash Player) but its mostly the advertizing that uses it!
