Gawddanged Msconfig. . .

Hi all,

Yesterday, I went into Msconfig to setup for a "clean boot" of Win Xp - and
uninstall some ISP software thats been giving me some major problems.
Msconfig gave me "access denied" messages on my account and on Administrator
account while trying to hide windows entries, and disable startup items.

I went into the registry and looked at what permissions for regedit are set
.... and I found the administrator and my accounts have permissions set
properly, so I don't know what else could be wrong here.

Is there a way to correct this problem for both accounts?
Thanks in advance. . .

Well I found 5 copies of WINAD using AdawareSE, 4 of these copies were in
the systemvolume information folder. But my problem with the MSConfig
utility continue. I did some research on WINAD - and I found no entries in
the Registry at HKLM\Software\Classes\CLSID or at
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Explorer\BrowserHelperObjects.
Also, there was no WinAD2.dll found in %systemdir%.
Per KBid 314448 - Version of MSconfig I'm using is 5.1.2600.2180 (SP-2).
Article says new mscofing is 5.1.2600.28 or later. Is SP-3 ready for
download, if not Where can I obtain a newer copy of the utility?

Boot into the Safe mode and scan your system to check whether there are
any malwares or not.
