Gateway LCD off when on Battery

I have a Gateway running on Windows XP SP2 and I have a battery that is at
100%charge and when I unplug the AC or turn it on w/o the AC connected, the
screen backlight goes out and then in about 4 to 5 seconds, the notebook will
shut off completely. I have tried to recalibrate the battery and the computer
says it is fine. I am not wanting to buy a whole new battery... please have
good news for me.

Thanks

I have gone this route and it did not help. The technical support person told
me that a new battery is needed when in fact, I have spoken to another
support person that says that it is something wrong with the computer's power
management software.

It is probably a failing charger board which is a component on the
motherboard. The motherboard will need to be replaced. If the machine
is still under warranty get this done immediately.
